Client Connection 5.5.62

We have an old client version of 5.5.62 which we cannot yet update.
However, we will be upgrading the database to version 8.

Will the 5.5.62 still be able to connect to a version 8 database?
From our research it seems that it can but we'd like to know if anyone has experience with this.

The best idea is to set up a test system, e.g. in VirtualBox, and then
try it out. Also test if some queries work.
